Daenerys Targaryen and Richard Harrow are heading to the big screen. Emilia Clarke and Jack Huston are poised to star in an upcoming cinematic adaptation of Joe Sharkey’s nonfiction thriller, Above Suspicion. According to The Wrap, the film explores “the true story of a newly married FBI poster-boy” (Huston) who, after being assigned to work in an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky, is “drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman (Clarke) who becomes his star informant. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it’s a ticket to disaster for both of them.” The first-ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder scandalously ensues.
In a separate interview with the Los Angeles Times, Clarke shared the funny, oddly inspirational story on how she got the part:
I just turned up in character. I’ve never done that before, ever. Like, rat-a-tat-tat on the door, I’m in character. I just totally went there. And [Phillip Noyce, the director] had a little twinkle in his eye. Initially, I could tell that he was like, ‘I don’t think this girl can do this.’ I had my female intuitive spidey senses out and I could just sense that his guy was not feeling this. And I don’t like that. I’m a competitive person. And I wanted the damn part. So I went out and just turned up in character. I was wearing the tightest jeans I could find with the rips in them and these big high heels. The biggest hoops I could find. Loads of makeup and wore a T-shirt with a knot, showing my belly button. And was like, ‘hey, how y’all doing?’ It was so much fun. That’s why you do it. What’s the worst that can happen? He’ll be like, ‘the funniest thing happened to me today. This fucking crazy lady was acting a little batshit crazy.’ But it didn’t. It turned into him being like, ‘oh my God, you’ve got the part. That’s exactly what I’m looking for.’ You’ve gotta be brave and have fun. You can’t take this shit too seriously, otherwise this industry will literally suffocate you.
