“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke and Oscar-nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”) are set to headline “The Pod Generation,” a sci-fi romantic comedy that will be directed by Sophie Barthes. MK2 Films has boarded international sales, and CAA Media Finance is handling domestic rights.

Set in a near future where AI is all the rage and nature is becoming a distant memory, the story revolves around Rachel (Clarke) and Alvy (Ejiofor), a New York couple who are ready to take their relationship to the next level and start a family. Rachel’s work gives them a chance to use a new tool developed by a tech giant, Pegasus, which offers couples the opportunity to share pregnancy on a more equal footing via detachable artificial wombs, or pods. Alvy, a botanist and devoted purist, has doubts, but his love for Rachel prompts him to take a leap of faith. And so begins the wild ride to parenthood in this brave new world.

“The Pod Generation” starts shooting in March 2022. Mk2 films will share the script and sizzle reel at next week’s virtual American Film Market.

“Working with Emilia and Chiwetel as a couple on screen is a dream come true,” said Barthes. “Emilia’s versatility, her disarming sense of humor and capacity to navigate complex emotions are a perfect match to Chiwetel’s charisma and extraordinary screen presence.”

Barthes added that the “idea of the artificial womb as either doom or liberation for women is inherently comedic material.”

Fionnuala Jamison, managing director of MK2 Films, described “The Pod Generation” as a “captivating near-future story with a distinctly feminine twist that really haunts as much as it entertains.” At the same time, she said, it’s “raising ethical questions about where technology is taking us, like once the womb has been commodified, what’s next?”

“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke will play poet Elizabeth Barrett in “Let Me Count the Ways,” with Bjorn Runge directing the love story from a Paula Milne script. Based on a true story, the film will follow the love affair between poet Barrett and playwright Robert Browning.

Damian Jones of DJ Films (“Goodbye Christopher Robin”) and Bankside Films are producing. It is their second collaboration following Amma Asante’s “Belle.” Bankside developed the film as part of its growing production slate. It holds the international sales rights and will introduce the film to buyers for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival.

Clarke is hot property after “Game of Thrones,” and Runge is coming off the success of “The Wife.” BAFTA-winning Milne is one of the U.K.’s leading screenwriters.

Set in the mid-19th century, the film follows Elizabeth as she is living in the family home with her siblings in an affluent part of London. She has gained fame and recognition for her poetry but, weakened by a mysterious illness, lives as a virtual recluse, reliant on laudanum. The youthful, impulsive Robert Browning comes into her life, awakening a passion she had previously only ever written about. But the closer she and Browning get, the more her father fights to keep control over her.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring this most compelling of love stories to the world, and to be able to do so with such a talented team of people both in front and behind the camera is a privilege,” said Bankside’s Stephen Kelliher.

Jones added: “This film is a classic love story which delivers something entirely unexpected and relevant in today’s world, and I am excited to be embarking on this journey with an outstanding team of people.” [Source]

Westeros and a galaxy far, far away are colliding! “Game of Thrones” breakout Emilia Clarke is joining the “Star Wars” Han Solo spinoff.

Clarke will star opposite Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover, who play Solo and fellow smuggler Lando Calrissian, respectively.

All three leads endured grueling testing sessions for the standalone pic. The tests date back to the beginning of the year when thousands of actors first began meeting and reading for the role of the title character that Ehrenreich eventually nabbed.

“Selma” and “Creed” star Tessa Thompson, “Power Rangers” actress Naomi Scott, and Zoe Kravitz read for the female lead in October. Another group, which included Clarke, “Dope’s” Kiersey Clemons, fellow “Thrones” actress Jessica Henwick, and “Emerald City” star Adria Arjona tested in London. Clarke ultimately landed the role.

Execs and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are also penning the script, had tested another group in September, but decided on one more round after struggling to make their choice.

The movie will be set prior to “Star Wars: A New Hope,” like the other upcoming “Star Wars” standalone project, “Rogue One,” which hits theaters on Dec. 16.

May 15th, 2016     Comments Off on Emilia Clarke and Jack Huston — HBO’s Finest Brits — Are Starring in a Thriller Together     Author: Staff

Daenerys Targaryen and Richard Harrow are heading to the big screen. Emilia Clarke and Jack Huston are poised to star in an upcoming cinematic adaptation of Joe Sharkey’s nonfiction thriller, Above Suspicion. According to The Wrap, the film explores “the true story of a newly married FBI poster-boy” (Huston) who, after being assigned to work in an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky, is “drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman (Clarke) who becomes his star informant. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it’s a ticket to disaster for both of them.” The first-ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder scandalously ensues.

In a separate interview with the Los Angeles Times, Clarke shared the funny, oddly inspirational story on how she got the part:

I just turned up in character. I’ve never done that before, ever. Like, rat-a-tat-tat on the door, I’m in character. I just totally went there. And [Phillip Noyce, the director] had a little twinkle in his eye. Initially, I could tell that he was like, ‘I don’t think this girl can do this.’ I had my female intuitive spidey senses out and I could just sense that his guy was not feeling this. And I don’t like that. I’m a competitive person. And I wanted the damn part. So I went out and just turned up in character. I was wearing the tightest jeans I could find with the rips in them and these big high heels. The biggest hoops I could find. Loads of makeup and wore a T-shirt with a knot, showing my belly button. And was like, ‘hey, how y’all doing?’ It was so much fun. That’s why you do it. What’s the worst that can happen? He’ll be like, ‘the funniest thing happened to me today. This fucking crazy lady was acting a little batshit crazy.’ But it didn’t. It turned into him being like, ‘oh my God, you’ve got the part. That’s exactly what I’m looking for.’ You’ve gotta be brave and have fun. You can’t take this shit too seriously, otherwise this industry will literally suffocate you.

In short, always trust those intuitive spidey senses of yours. Even if that means going a little batshit crazy every now and then. [Source]

February 25th, 2016     Comments Off on Emilia Clarke Eyes MGM Romantic Comedy ‘Set It Up’     Author: Staff

MGM has offered “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke the lead role in the romantic comedy “Set It Up” with Justin Nappi’s Treehouse Pictures.

The studio has acquired Katie Silberman’s spec script, in which two overwhelmed assistants set up their tyrannical bosses romantically in order to get them out of their hair. Clarke is not yet attached to the role.

Clarke, 29, has been nominated twice for a Primetime Emmy for her portrayal of the exiled Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and played Sarah Conner in “Terminator Genisys.” The British actress will be seen next opposite Sam Claflin on the Warner Bros.-MGM drama “Me Before You,” which opens in June.

Silberman is a co-producer on Warner Bros.’ romantic comedy “How to Be Single,” starring Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson, and co-produced Reese Witherspoon’s comedy “Hot Pursuit.”

CAA represents Clarke and Silberman. Clarke is also repped by Emptage Hallett in the U.K. [Source]

Another new role for Emilia! Emilia will join the WWI Drama ‘The Guns of August’ Opposite Helena Bonham Carter opposite Helena Bonham Carter! The project will be added to the sidebar as soon as possible. You can read the full article here.

Even though “Game of Thrones” has been renewed for two more seasons, Emilia Clarke is not slowing down on her film career one bit. Deadline reports Clarke has joined the cast of upcoming WWI drama “The Guns of August,” which also has Helena Bonham Carter and Charles Dance starring.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning non-fiction book of the same name by Barbara W. Tuchman, “The Guns of August” will trace the first month of World War I, “thirty days in the summer of 1914 that determined the course of the conflict, the century, and ultimately our present world.” Filming under the direction of Oliver Hirschbiegel will begin next year, with the film out to buyers in Cannes now.

Clarke is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” now in its fourth season, and she’s currently filming the lead role of Sarah Connor in the new “Terminator” reboot. She also just signed on to play Bonnie Parker opposite Nicholas Hoult’s Clyde Barrow in a new biopic of the notorious outlaw couple called “Go Down Together.”

Emilia Clarke is up for a new role. She and Nicholas Hoult will play the bank-robbing duo Bonny and Clyde. Personally, I am very excited about this project and I can’t wait to see her portraying a criminal. You can read the whole article here.

Michael Sucsy is directing the adaptation of Jeff Guinn’s non-fiction book about the young criminals

“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke and “X-Men” actor Nicholas Hoult will play bank-robbing duo Bonnie and Clyde in Michael Sucsy’s “Go Down Together,” TheWrap has learned. Sucsy is attached to direct from a script by Sheldon Turner (“Up in the Air”) and David Auburn (“Proof”), who adapted Jeff Guinn’s non-fiction book “Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde.”

“Go Down Together” is a revisionist take on the legend of Clyde Barrow and femme fatale Bonnie Parker, young lovers who left at least seven bodies in their wake as they robbed banks throughout the Depression-era South. Hoult’s casting had been recently rumored, while Clarke is newly linked to the project, which has been in development for several years.
